Blog After my Second Observation By Mentor

Blog after Second Observation by Mentor
What was my opinion about my lesson?
In this lesson the learners were introduced to the use of “Quotient Rule” for differentiation.
The learners were taught the statement of quotient rule. This was followed by demonstration of using the rule through solving a numerical example. The learner participated in solving the example by doing different steps. After this they were given a hand-out to work on in groups of four learners and then in groups of two learner each. While solving the questions on the hand-out learners interacted by helping each other in the group. They were observed and monitored during the activity. Help was given to weaker learners.
How the mentor evaluated my lesson:
The lesson was lesson evaluated as pass by the mentor. However some areas were highlighted for further improvements.
What can be improved and How (Action Plan)
The following table shows the areas which needs improvements and the plans for these improvements.

ACTION PLAN
Agreed priorities for improvement
What’s the Area?

What will be improved for learners?
How shall we fix it? (Action – short term /long term)
How will we know? (Monitoring and review, including dates)
·      Use and appropriateness of material/resources

·      Use different coloured pens on the whiteboard to help clarify and draw attention to key learning points/important features of what you are doing.
·     Different coloured pens will be used for highlighting important point in the lecture.
Will be monitored and reviewed in next observation
·      Use and appropriateness of material/resources
·      Develop hand-out so that they include layers of support, helping learners’ complete tasks. Also include references for further support.
·     In the future hand-outs there will be explanation remarks with each step in a text box. Also references for further reading will be included,
Will be monitored and reviewed in next observation
·      Manage learning using appropriate teaching techniques and employing effective communication strategies.
·      Plan how to deploy different strategies to get learners to work together so that the learning aims of the collaborative stages in the lesson are achieved.
·     Different strategies for working on the hand-out will be included. These could be group work and cross group assessment, individual work and peer assessment.
Will be monitored and reviewed in next observation
