Blog after Second Observation by Personal Tutor
What was my opinion about my lesson?
The aim of the observed lesson was to equip learners with the understandings of the use of the product rule for differentiation of the product of mathematical functions.
In order to achieve the aims, the learners were taught the product rule first. Then the product rule was applied to solve some numerical examples.
During the lesson the student’s engagement was insured through maximum interaction to achieve optimum learning outcomes. They interacted by asking questions and discussing technical issues. This interaction made the learning process mutual, interesting and enjoyable experience. During the lesson there were several nominations with probing questions to check for learning. To further consolidate their understanding they were made to solve some numerical examples in the group and independently. While solving the numerical they were thoroughly monitored and observed. Help was made available to weak students.
At the end of the session the lecture was summarised, the learning outcomes were reviewed and learner’s feedbacks were recorded.
Functional skills (Language and literacy/numeracy) hand outs were also given to students to nourish their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills.
How the tutor evaluated my lesson:
The tutor evaluated my lesson as Grade 2. However some areas were highlighted for further improvements. What can be improved and How (Action Plan)
The following table shows the areas which needs improvements and the plans for these improvements.
ACTION PLAN
What’s the problem? (Weakness judgement -learner-focused)
|
How shall we fix it? (Action – short term /long term)
|
How will we know? (Monitoring and review, including dates)
|
To be completed by observer
|
To be completed by the observee together with the observer. Actions could involve working with: learner services, advanced teachers, professional development, curriculum review, student mentors, student buddying.
| |
· Timing – breaking up activities
· nominations - perhaps more
· spelling of learners’ names needs to be consistent to avoid confusion about names
· Picture or image on hand-out to make it interesting
· Give example about the topic from real life
|
· Teacher explained why it is better not to give a time limit
· More nomination will be made and the learners will be allowed to take time to think about the answers
· The names of the Learners will be copied from the register in future
· Where possible the hand-out will be made more interesting and user friendly by putting some topic relevant images in future
· Effort will be made to make the topic visibly pertinent to real life

Next observation in May 2013
